The Unit Manager will be responsible for coordinating the improvement of the quality of nursing care, ensuring compliance with professional and ethical practices.

They will also be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that nursing care and service delivery are implemented and practiced within a multidisciplinary quality assurance team. Additionally, they will be responsible for coordinating capacity building, mentoring, and training.

KEY RESULTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CONSISTENCY OF CARE

Financial Management

  • Manage case complexity and skill combinations to ensure cost-effective, high-quality care.
  • Manage all departmental costs.
  • Ensure accurate billing, inventory management, and purchasing.
  • Facilitate the timely and accurate collection of patient records.

Governance and Quality Management

  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement and ensure the development and evaluation of appropriate quality improvement strategies and initiatives.

Risk Management

  • Investigate all negative incidents and ensure their proper recording in the Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Monitor safety standards in accordance with the Machinery and Work Safety Act (Act 6 of 1983). Report all accidents and incidents to the safety supervisor/representative.
  • Ensure compliance with protocols, policies, and laws.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order and receives proper maintenance.
  • Control the asset register.

Patient Care.

  • Ensure the unit provides safe, cost-effective, and high-quality patient care, in accordance with the clinical governance strategy and evidence-based practice.
  • Evaluate the patient experience through patient and stakeholder feedback.
  • Evaluate nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients about their care.
  • Promote the health and well-being of patients and staff.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention principles and all standard precautions.
  • Implement group quality initiatives.

SKILLS PROFILE

EDUCATION

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant nursing degree (Diploma in General Nursing/Bachelor of Science in Nursing) or equivalent NQF 7 qualification.
  • Registration as a registered nurse with the South African Council of Nurses (SANC). • Compliance with the SANC code for registered nurses and all applicable health legislation.
    Preferred
  • 2 or more years of experience in a private hospital
  • Clinical leadership experience

KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Strong financial knowledge and ability to interpret financial data
