Job Title: Marketing Manager – Rx (Physician)
Location: Parktown, Johannesburg
Main Purpose of the Position
The Marketing Manager – Rx is a clinically trained medical professional who will lead the strategic development and execution of the company’s portfolio of prescription drug brands.
This position is designed for a physician with a strong clinical background who is interested in applying their medical expertise to pharmaceutical strategy, healthcare innovation, and evidence-based brand leadership.
The ideal candidate will translate clinical evidence, treatment guidelines, and disease insights into credible and impactful marketing strategies that resonate with healthcare professionals.
Working closely with the Medical Affairs, Sales, and Regulatory Affairs teams, the Marketing Manager will drive the positioning, growth, and lifecycle management of the company’s Rx brands, while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity and regulatory compliance.
A structured development plan will support the ideal candidate in developing advanced pharmaceutical marketing and leadership skills.
Key Performance Areas
- Strategic Leadership
Develop and contribute to the strategic direction of the company’s prescription drug brand portfolio, in line with overall business objectives.
Leverage clinical expertise to guide brand positioning, alignment with treatment pathways, and evidence-based communication.
Collaborate closely with the medical team to translate clinical research, guidelines, and disease knowledge into clear and credible marketing strategies.
Support the management of prescription drug brand lifecycles by identifying opportunities for growth, differentiation, and innovation. - Healthcare Marketing Excellence
Ensure the development of high-quality, scientifically sound promotional materials, including presentation guides, objection responses, and informational materials.
Guide the development of educational initiatives such as continuing medical education (CME) programs, advisory boards, and collaboration with key opinion leaders. Support the development of engaging strategies for interacting with healthcare professionals through traditional and digital channels.
Leverage digital information platforms and closed-loop marketing tools to improve the quality of interaction and the effectiveness of communication.
Ensure that all communication with healthcare professionals is scientifically accurate, compliant, and aligned with regulatory requirements. - Leadership and Team Development
Lead, train, and guide prescription drug brand managers to implement high-impact marketing initiatives targeting healthcare professionals.
Support the development of strong marketing capabilities within the prescription drug brand team.
Foster a culture of scientific rigor, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Conduct performance reviews, support skills development, and contribute to succession planning within the marketing team. - Market Analysis and Insights
Analyze prescription data, market dynamics, and competitor activity to inform strategic decision-making.
Translate clinical and market insights into actionable brand strategies.
Monitor the performance and return on investment of campaigns and initiatives targeting healthcare professionals.
Utilize digital marketing insights and closed-loop marketing analytics to optimize messaging and engagement strategies. - Cross-functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with the Medical Affairs, Sales, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to ensure aligned strategy and execution.
Provide strategic input to the Marketing Director and contribute to broader business and portfolio discussions.
Support accurate forecasting, budgeting, and planning processes for the pharmaceutical portfolio. - Compliance and Governance
Ensure all prescription drug marketing activities comply with SAHPRA regulations and applicable industry codes.
Maintain rigorous approval processes for promotional materials and campaigns.
Foster a culture of ethical and evidence-based communication within the marketing team.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Medical Doctor (MBChB) degree.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of clinical experience as a practicing physician.
Strong interest in health strategy, pharmaceutical innovation, and applying clinical evidence to practical solutions.
Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or medical affairs is a plus, but not required.
