Senior Microsoft Cloud and Platform Security Lead (Short-Term Contract)
If you are a senior Microsoft security specialist who enjoys working in the areas of cloud, M365, security operations, and architecture, this is an opportunity to take on a technical leadership role in a large enterprise environment.
You will be responsible for defining and strengthening the organization’s Microsoft security posture across Azure, Microsoft 365, and hybrid platforms. The role combines security architecture, engineering oversight, governance, and high-level incident support.
This is a senior technical role for a professional who can go beyond specific security technologies and contribute to defining how Microsoft security is designed, governed, and continuously improved in an enterprise environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and improving security controls across Microsoft 365 and Azure, including Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Entra ID, and Azure security policies.
- Establishing technical security standards, secure configurations, and core controls aligned with recognized security frameworks such as CIS, NIST, and ISO 27001.
- Monitoring security posture and driving improvements to the Microsoft Security Score, vulnerabilities, and other key security measures.
- Providing high-level support for complex or critical security incidents across Microsoft 365, Azure, and other platforms, collaborating closely with security operations teams on containment, investigation, and recovery.
- Reviewing security designs for initiatives involving Microsoft platforms and the cloud, ensuring that appropriate controls and technical decisions are documented. • Provide technical oversight of PKI, Azure Key Vault, DevSecOps security controls, GitHub Advanced Security, and security considerations related to AI and Copilot technologies.
- Support and guide security engineers, helping to strengthen their capabilities in Microsoft security technologies.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, architecture, risk, audit, and delivery teams to ensure that security is integrated into technology initiatives.
This role does not involve day-to-day endpoint or identity management. Instead, it will provide security standards, technical analysis, governance, and incident management support, while operational teams will retain responsibility for their respective platforms.
You will also have the opportunity to influence security patterns, control configurations, technology decisions, and improvements to the organization’s overall cyber resilience.
Required Experience:
- Ideally, you will have 7 to 10 years or more of experience in Cybersecurity or Information Security, with at least 5 years focused on Microsoft security in a hybrid enterprise environment.
- Experience should include security architecture, control design, improving Microsoft’s security posture, managing complex incidents, and supporting regulatory or security audits.
- Experience in a regulated environment, such as financial services, healthcare, or a sector with similar controls, is highly beneficial. Knowledge of the Personal Data Protection Act (POPIA) is an advantage.
• You must be comfortable communicating technical security risks to senior management, governance, audit, and other non-technical stakeholders, while also possessing the technical knowledge to provide guidance on complex security matters.
Requirements and Certifications:
- Relevant degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- Microsoft AZ-500 certification
- Microsoft SC-200 certification
- SC-100 certification is a plus.
- CISSP or CISM certifications are a plus.
- Ongoing professional development in Microsoft security, cloud security, and cyber resilience.
