About the Position

Introduction
The successful candidate will join a team developing platinum group metal (PGM) electrocatalysts for PEM fuel cells and electrolyzers. Experience in heterogeneous catalysis and the development of electrocatalysts for fuel cells and/or electrolyzers is required. Knowledge of electrochemistry, electrochemical process technology, heterogeneous catalysis with precious metals, or electrocatalyst preparation is a plus.

Functions and Responsibilities
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

Develop electrocatalysts for PEM electrolyzer and/or fuel cell applications.

Perform electrochemical and physicochemical analyses of electrocatalysts.

Contribute to PEM electrocatalyst research within the team.

Collaborate closely with the fuel cell manufacturing team to conduct pilot production of certain MEAs using HySA catalysts.

Develop electrocatalysts with the aim of improving key performance and durability parameters.

Evaluate MEAs in individual cells and stacks using various industry-standard protocols.

Prepare periodic intellectual property declarations for submission to NIPMO.

Excellent technical report writing skills.

Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Ensure strict adherence to SHEQ procedures and that project work is executed with maximum technical efficiency.

Actively participate in the training, guidance, and motivation of junior staff. Participate in team discussions and technical decisions.

Prepare professional reports, articles, and presentations for local and international conferences.

Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialization.

Stay professionally up-to-date with technological and business advancements relevant to the division’s interests.

Desired Experience and Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of experience with PEMFC and/or PEMWE electrocatalysts, or three (3) years of experience in heterogeneous catalysis environments, including the preparation, characterization, and application of PGM-based electrocatalysts.

Basic knowledge and experience in scaling up heterogeneous catalysts.

Knowledge of or experience with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) systems.

Relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Ability to collaborate with other institutions (universities, scientific councils, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum: Master’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

Ideal: PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

Ability to work in a team.

Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

Attention to detail, follow-through, and proactivity.
