The Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, and implementation of individualized, holistic, and person-centered nursing care for the patient, their family, or the community, whether directly or indirectly.
The incumbent coordinates patient care within the framework of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
The incumbent also performs their role by applying scientifically based nursing theories and processes, treating patients as physical, social, and spiritual individuals, and utilizing educational and technical resources applicable to clinical practice.
KEY RESULTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CONSISTENCY OF CARE
Patient Care
Serve as a clinical resource to assist staff in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting nursing care in the unit.
Ensure communication and interaction with the family and healthcare professionals regarding optimal patient care, acting as a patient advocate when necessary.
Ensure communication between nursing management and the unit to resolve issues related to patient care.
Evaluate, plan, and implement advanced nursing care in a specialized field, in accordance with standard nursing care procedures, as established in the standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as nursing theory and medical direction.
Initiate, direct, and maintain emergency treatment (resuscitation) as indicated for any patient/person in any ward/department of the hospital. Diagnose and treat the emergency patient promptly, effectively, and efficiently, within the scope of professional competence.
Interview the patient and their family to obtain relevant background information and identify the problem; assess the patient’s behavior and their immediate and long-term needs.
Participate as a professional member of the multidisciplinary team in the evaluation, development, and implementation of healthcare plans and treatment regimens.
Conduct rounds with the physician/healthcare professionals to review patient status; develop nursing care plans; participate in the care of all patients in the unit.
Assess patients’ care needs; Initiate individualized nursing care plans; coordinate services for the patient.
Prepare day/night shift documentation that reflects the patient’s condition, patient-to-staff ratio, and any issues.
Communicate with the unit supervisor to inform them of activities and any problems.
Perform any other related tasks as assigned.
Policy and Procedure Development
Contribute ideas and standards to the formulation of patient care policies and procedures in the hospital.
Quality and Risk Management
Ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
As a staff member, optimize and maintain high-quality, effective, and safe nursing care within the allocated budget.
Evaluate, establish standards, and monitor the safe use of supplies and equipment.

Cooperate and collaborate with other hospital departments to provide appropriate support services.
Facilitating Education and Training
Coordinate with the Clinical Facilitation Department and other members of the multidisciplinary team to address and recognize the continuing educational needs of nursing staff, students, and patients.
Collaborate with clinical facilitators in planning, implementing mentorship, and evaluating learning experiences and opportunities for nursing staff and students.
Ensure ongoing review, practice, and in-service training of emergency procedures.
Actively participate in in-service training and orientation for new unit staff.
Advise and inform staff on current and revised policies and procedures.
Resource Allocation
Allocate staff in a way that promotes optimal resource utilization to provide appropriate nursing care to each patient, considering their needs and the specialized skills required by each nursing staff member, using sound clinical judgment.
Adjust staffing levels according to the needs of each level of care.
Personal and Professional Development
Actively participate in your own professional development to maintain a satisfactory level of skills and knowledge.

Implementation of medical technologies, digitization, and data solutions for the benefit of our company and our patients.
Adoption of electronic health records, e-prescriptions, and clinical orders by physicians, as well as inventory management.
Requirements:
Registration as a Registered Nurse with the South African Council of Nurses.
In-depth knowledge of general and specialized nursing theory and practice.
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of modern nursing care.
